Still time to see the sunset
Sunset’s at 6:08pm today in Toronto. It’s 5:22pm now.
I meant to get March going strong with a commitment to posting Monday-Friday on various gardening topics - I promised myself I’d devote an hour every afternoon to this before Lu ends her day at school. But fate would have it that I got several unexpected calls (though ones that I’ve patiently been waiting for!), smack-dab in those hours, and the frustration and anger that these calls provoked in me are making it difficult to focus on anything other than this situation with the water. If you’re not familiar with what I’m talking about, you can read more about it here: protectourwatersource.ca.
You may have guessed that the calls in question were indeed about the water, and you may rightly surmise that I didn’t get good news. I can’t go into it more while I’m still angry - I need a little time to process things and wisely choose my words. I will soon.
After the first call, I simply had to take a walk, and on this walk, I saw the first shoots of something green, dry grass, and melting snow. For a minute, I felt better.
I meant to write about something - anything - to do with garden preparations as we move into the season, and I will, but right now, perhaps this is better than nothing. A little note, and photographic proof, to say the world’s coming alive.
I promise to you and to me that I’ll write about gardening soon, but right now, I need to go outside. It’s 5:35, still time to see the sunset.
